They had two children: Maurice (1794-1796) and Caroline (born 1796). He had served as a Captain in the Dutch army between 1772 and 1782, but was sentenced to 25 years in prison because of his participation at the revolutionary "banquets des Jordils et de Rolle". However, he escaped and went to London and then to Vandoeuvres where he lived for a while. After his return to Switzerland he became Commander of the Château of Chillon. He was also a judge at the Cantonal court from 1803; a Judge of Peace of the Circle of Pully (1803-1806); Judge of the Court of the District of Lausanne (1807-1824); and Deputy of the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud (1808-1813). | |

Content |
The diarist writes briefly about his military career. He also writes about the revolutionary events of 1791 in the Pays de Vaud – and especially the incident known as "les banquets de Rolle". Having participated in "les banquets", the diarist was imprisoned at the Château of Chillon before being transferred to Berne. He talks about the trial and why he felt the judgement was unfair. Indeed, he was unable to appear in court and wasn't even informed of the date of his trial. He describes his feelings of injustice at being sentenced to 25 years and his plans to escape to England. He also writes of his return to Switzerland and the opportunity to make a political career in light of further revolutionary events. |
