Biographical information |
Son of Abraham, member of the Grand Council and governor of Lenzburg, and of Margarete Esther Jenner. Married to Maria Juliane von Malessert. Studied law in Marburg (1730-33), then travelled through Europe, to Paris and England, among other places. Member of the Grand Council (1745), provincial governor of Interlaken (1750-56). Member of the Small Council from 1763 onwards, as renovator of the alms system (1764), and, from 1765 onwards, as the administrator of the population statistics. President of the clerical court (1765), standard bearer in Mittellöwen (1766), treasurer of the German-speaking cantons (1767-71) and in the even-numbered years of 1771-91, officiating head of the municipality. |
