Content | Mainly a travel journal, because a trip, a troop movement or hike is always the time for writing. Therefore, the records are often interrupted. The itinerary, overnight stays and landmarks are described in great detail. The travel diary is of a personal nature, the first-person narrative is usually in the foreground, e.g., when visits or activities (e.g., walking or hunting) are described. The travel diary, however, expands into a more general diary, including other events, for instance, family matters like his wedding (Vol. III, 1780) or his wife's painful pregnancies (Vol. III, 13 July 1787). |
