Content | These four little notebooks concern the author's travels in Switzerland (the Vallée de Joux, Brenets); Germany (Hamburg, Berlin, Saxony); and England (London, Bath). He describes landscapes, the people he met and comments on the art, architecture and natural-history cabinets he saw. Sometimes he mentions the inns where he ate and spent the night. The fourth notebook is a printed English diary in which he records his daily activities since departing from Hamburg. Essentially, he occupied himself with maintaining his position in high society (walks, dinners, trips to the theater). He also stayed for a short time in the town of Bath. |
