| Content | The diary begins when the author is eleven years old. She maintained it for the next 46 years. She writes of her daily activities (social calls, parties, games, the theater and walks) and goes into detail about her own health and that of her acquaintances. She also mentions the deaths of people in her neighborhood. In the early notebooks she keeps a record of her lessons and of her parents' activities. These entries are quite short, but get longer as the notebooks progress. Indeed, she speaks of her feelings in addition to writing about her daily life and the company she kept. |
