Content | After some information about his noble descent, de Courten begins his autobiography with his own birth and then deals with the following topics, organizing them by subtitles: type of education, lessons, illnesses, entry into military service at the age of 15, participation in military ventures, travels (e.g. to Valais), his marriage (which his mother initially opposed), death of his son in 1778 (which he strongly deplored), work on the family's genealogy, marriage of his brother, death of his wife in 1788 (a long passage). The text breaks off abruptly on page 158 during the report of his activities at the beginning of 1791 (education of his daughter, worries, "affaires privés"). This is followed by additions in another hand. |
