Content |
Diary in which the author recorded his daily activities, discussions he had in society and books he'd read. He presents his thoughts on various subjects: the emotivity of women; different systems of government; freedom of men; and the differences between white and black men. He writes of his private life as well as his activities within society. The diary begins at a point whereby friends have, to the great regret of the author, left Lausanne following a visit. He examines his feelings about the absence of one of them in particular. Several times he returns to his fear of marriage. Indeed, such themes (passion, love, and marriage) are elaborated upon in the other fragments of his diary – which report discussions that took place during sessions of the literary society of which he was a member. |
