| Biographical information | Son of Henri (Lord of Moiry and Genolier) and Marie Quisard. In 1740 he married Barbe-Elisabeth Hackbrett, daughter of Colonel Jean Rodophe and Marie Lerber. They didn’t have any children. He was a member of the Bernese government, the Chambre des appellations romandes and the CC Council. From 1758 to 1766 he was Bailiff of Yverdon; while in 1773 he was appointed Captain of Bern. He wrote a book about his family entitled Généalogie de la maison de Gingins; as well as several others on Bernese nobles. He also published the novel Le Bacha de Bude. | |

The diarist's purpose is to explain the workings of the "Maison de Gingins". He writes about different members of the family and details their inheritance, possessions and income. He speaks of their individual temperaments. He also relates the advice he has given them in order to preserve the family's fortune. |
