Content | The young girl began her diary when she was sixteen. She writes of her daily activities: lessons; housework; visits; walks; time spent with relatives; theater rehearsals. Important political events are briefly mentioned such as the victory of the French army at Vagram. She doesn't record her feelings. Even meeting her future husband is limited to factual indications. We learn that she signed her marriage contract on Tuesday 10th October. However, their marriage hardly changes the diary's content. Her daily activities remain the same. She often writes about her parents' health and the last reports are almost exclusively devoted to her father: each record beginning with an assessment of his condition during the night. The diary stops abruptly on March 25, 1819 (the day before his death). |
