Son of Pierre Bergeon de Travers (a teacher at Môtiers) and Marie Sandoz. In 1751 he married Elisabeth de Montmollin. They had eight children: Catherine Barbe (1752); Marie-Anne (1753); Elisabeth (1754); Pierre Frédéric (1756); Ferdinand (1757); Marianne Henriette (1759); Judith Anne (1761); and Guillaume Henry (1762) who died before his first birthday. His wife died in 1765. Two years later he married again; this time to Barbe Py (daughter of Samuel). He was appointed minister on 4th June 1749. He also became Pastor at Corcelles and Coffrane. In 1754 he began work as a writing teacher in Neuchâtel.
