Content | The author was twelve years old when he wrote of his daily activities during a stay with his grandmother and uncle near Reichenbach in the Bernese Oberland. He spent his time hunting, writing, playing the violin, and playing cards. He also helped with agricultural work such as harvesting potatoes or cabbage and counting grain sacks. During a visit from his parents he showed his diary to his father. In return, he was given his pocket money for the week. Charles also corresponded with his father on a regular basis during this period away from home |
