Content | The writer begins his story from his birth. Then he devotes long pages to describe the escapades he made during his time he was a student at the College of Lausanne and then at the Academy. His parents decided to dedicate him to the holy ministry. But his family situation suddenly changed dramatically; his father, seduced by a woman, squandered the family fortune and separated from his wife. Daniel-Amédée was also forced to leave the house and decided to leave the country. He recounts his journey to England where he worked as teacher. After a while, he left England for Bordeaux where he became private tutor. At the end of his commitment, the writer decided to return to his country. He acquired a land and married Marie Anne Duterneaux, a 42-year-old woman. He declares, at the end of his autobiography, that the fact that he didn't have any descendant was his only regret. |
