The first notebook starts with the news about the invasion of the french troops in the bernese territory. The writer wants to keep memory of the revolutionary events. He sometimes wrote some very detailed relations of the troubles, troops mouvements and of the discussions and decisions taken by the government about these events. From the 27th of March 1798, the writer wrote periodical reviews of several publications such as "Bulletin officiel", "le Nouvelliste vaudois" or "le Régénérateur". His diary records the main events related to the Vaudois Revolution and in particular the day of January 24, 1798. It evokes the capture of the castle of Lausanne and the notification to the bailiff of his hostage status. It also records the events taking place on the streets where bear effigies are burned. Eugène Mottaz, who edited this diary in 1891, restructured the facts described by François Pichard into two separate sections, one grouping Vaud events and the other, Swiss events.. |
