Biographical information | Karl Friedrich attended the military school in Colmar (1781-1785), then studied law and history in Göttingen. Sole owner of the dominion of Rued from 1790 onwards. He was a member of the Grand Council of Aargau (1803-08) and of the Grand Council of Bern (1814). | |

Content | Diary that May began on the return journey on the Rhine from Cologne to Mainz; he begins with a review of his travels so far. He confesses that he was reluctant to leave Göttingen, but pleased to arrive in Bern at the end. The records conclude with May announcing that he will joyfully "throw himself into the arms of the best of mothers". The text includes pencil drawings of what the author saw during his travels. May travelled with Ludwig Rudolf von Jenner, who also wrote a diary during this trip. |
