Biographical information | Son of Ignace. Unmarried. In 1782, he joined the French military service. In 1792, he returned to Switzerland and became a member of the council of Two Hundred in Fribourg. When the Ancien Régime collapsed in 1798, he went into exile in Poland and joined the Bachmann Regiment in the English military. As a captain, he took part in the campaign of 1799 and fought in Graubünden in 1800. Governor of the militia of Freiburg (1804-14) and federal division commander (1815). Until the July revolution in 1830, he was colonel general of the Swiss regiments in France. He served in the rank of Maréchal de camp. | |
