Son of Johannes (Landammann of Val Bregalia), and Katharina Barbara (born von S.-Soglio). He married Maria Elisabeth (born S.-Soglio), daughter of Anton. Governor of Morbegno (Valtellina), Landammann of Val Bregaglia, member of the (Bavarian) Council. He marries Elisabeth von Salis-Soglio. Described as a "fanatic" by scholars, as he wrote to several European kings regarding his project of uniting the different denominations. |

Salis writes several times a day about the daily events, very often he talks of his wife and what she has said to him. The couple often has disagreements, for example, on the treatment of her sick son John, who has cough and fever (whether this is to be treated with radish juice, as a friend recommends from him, she refuses, then he consulted the doctor ..., p. 166ff), whether he is travel to the Valtellina and leave his wife behind (he does not want them, p.31ff). The sick Johannes also appears elsewhere (p.195 he vomits, p.71ff, about his milk nutrition). Salis is "without profession," as he himself admits, which burdens him (p.71ff.). He makes walks and visits, reports of business and correspondence (to the Danish king). There are also numerous pious passages, such as direct address to God or everyday piety (prayers, morning prayer, church attendance). |
