Biographical information |
Son of a Basel watchmaker / Councilman. After his studies he worked as a private tutor, but was gradually attracted to pietism by the work of theologian Johann Konrad Ziegler. Subsequently, he became Pastor of Waldenburg (1740) and Muttenz (1747). He also composed numerous hymns and is known as the pioneer of Pietism in Basel. |
