Biographical information | Son of Johann Simeon (a city architect) and Maria Mathis. In 1723 he married Anna Bavier, daughter of Johann Ulrich. He studied theology and was ordained in 1720. Subsequently, he was a pastor in Maladers (1722—23); Thusis (1723—33); and Chur (1742—55). In 1729 he had founded an orphanage in Thusis; while during the years 1733—42 he had distanced himself from the church. As such, he became a prominent representative of pietism in the Three Federations and an advocate of ecclesiastical separatism. | ||
