The author addresses the text to his children. It is a record of both his military career and family life. Indeed, he gives a detailed account of military events in Switzerland during this period — and especially those in the Canton of Vaud in which he took part. Elsewhere, he writes of his family life and especially his children. He also mentions financial trouble after his first marriage; the death of his first wife; meeting his future second wife; and the death of her only son. |
