The diary begins just after his appointment as a Bailiff Lieutenant and he continued to write on a daily basis for more than 37 years. For the first ten years he mainly kept a record of his daily expenses and the places where he took his meals. He also made notes about the weather. At length, the diary accounts for his daily activities and includes copies of the administrative and legal documents its author received. It even notes the arrival and performances of theatrical troupes in Lausanne. |
