Biographical information | Daughter of Horace Bénédict de Saussure and Albertine Amélie Boissier. In 1785 she married the Genevan politician, chemist and botanist Jacques Necker (his father having taught her classical languages and science). After her marriage she moved to Cologny where she hosted a salon and frequented the Coppet salon of her cousin and friend, Germaine de Staël. Between 1828 and 1838 she published a three-volume educational work entitled L'éducation progressive. | ||

Content | She kept a journal of her travels in England with her husband and children during June and July 1794. They began in Farnham, Surrey and continued to White Island, Bristol, Cornwall, Wales and then Bridgnorth in Shropshire. Albertine describes views, landscapes, architecture, flora and fauna, and works of art. She also visited London, but didn't write any more as they simply had too many things to see and do during their time here. |
