Content | Rosalie was fourteen when she wrote her travel diary. It begins with her journey from Geneva to Paris (alongside her grandmother and other members of her family). She describes the landscape as well as the people they met. Once in Paris she describes the places she visits (St. Denis, the Salpetriere, various castles and churches etc.) as well as the shops she frequents. She devotes many pages to Versailles where she saw the King. She concludes that he's hated by his subjects because of the money he lavishes on his mistress, Madame Du Barry. Rosalie also writes about social events such as balls, parties, the opera and plays. |
