| Biographical information | Son of Abraham and Jeanne Catherine (born Dufour). In 1696 he married Françoise-Louise de Monzure from Arras. He began his military career as a cadet in his father's regiment and became its leader in 1704. Subsequently, he rose through the ranks as Battalion Commander in 1713; Lieutenant Colonel in 1723; Colonel in 1734; Brigadier of the Armies of the King of France in 1738; and Colonel Owner of the Court-au-Chantre regiment at the end of that same year. | ||

| Content | The author writes notes on an annual basis. He begins with several sketches of his childhood. When he was ten, for instance, he travelled abroad to join his father; a military commander in Marseille. It was here he began training for his own military career. He writes of the campaigns carried out year after year, while also taking time to include more personal events: the deaths and marriages of members of his family or entourage. He also notes the important events he attended or at which he participated: For example, he went to Versailles for the celebration of the marriage of Prince de Conty. He also mentions his own military promotions. Finally, he speaks of a letter from the King (dated June 3, 1713) which put him in charge of his own regiment. |
