Theophile Remy Frêne kept a diary for more than 60 years. Although he did not write every day he recorded his travels, professional activities (church business, grape harvests etc.), his reading, and meteorological observations. He also made note of domestic events such as his own wedding, his children's birth and the death of family members. Exceptional events such as his cousin being accused of murder are also noted. Although for the most part he writes briefly, Frêne does explain certain things in more detail -- such as when he stood for election at Courterlary, Tavannes or Péry. |
